Unable to access the router configuration page

Ideally, the computer does not need to be connected to the Internet to access this page. The router also does not need to be connected to the modem. So, the only thing you need to make sure is to connect the router to the computer via Ethernet cable or wireless connection.

If you cannot open or access your router's configuration or administration web page through the login URL or login IP address, try the following solutions in order to resolve the issue under discussion:

  1. Reboot your system
  2. Use the IP address associated with the path
  3. Use default gateway
  4. Change browser
  5. Router hard reset

1]Reboot your system

Sometimes a simple solution like restarting your computer can solve a complex problem. So, before moving on to the more complex solutions, simply restart the computer. This should be helpful.

2]Use the IP address associated with the path

When you try to access the router's login page, you use the URL provided by your router manufacturer. For example, the login URL for Netgear's router page is routerlogin.net. They give this URL to make the job easier. It is associated with an IP address which for a usual Netgear router is 192.168.1.1. If you are using a Dlink router, the IP address is 192.168.0.1. It will be different for different brands. You can contact your router manufacturer for the same and try it to get to the router page.

The IP address must be entered in the address bar of any browser.

3]Use the default gateway

Have you wondered why the IP address is different for different brands of router and where it comes from? This is the router's default gateway and all other devices connected to the router will carry an IP address in sequence.

To check the Default Gateway the system, the procedure is as follows:

  • Search for Command Prompt in the Windows search bar and select the option to open the application.
  • In the command prompt window, type the command ipconfig and press Enter. It will display some information.
  • In this information you will find an entry named Default Gateway.
  • Copy and paste it into your browser's address bar.
  • Press enter and the router page should open.

4]Change browser

Sometimes the problem can come from the browser itself. To isolate this case, you can try changing browsers.

5]Router hard reset

Interestingly, to make accessing the router more secure, the router login URL and IP address can be changed from the router page. It also prevents a soft reset of the router since you wouldn't be able to access the router's page in the first place.

In this case, you may consider a hard reset of the router. This is usually done by inserting a pin into the reset hole for a few seconds. Hard reset will also change the router page URL and default IP address.

We hope this article will help you access and change your router settings.

Why isn't 192.168.1.1 opening?

192.168.1.1 is the default IP address of Netgear Genie which is the login page of Netgear routers. However, since Netgear was the market leader in routers and its troubleshooting docs were more popular, most people perceive 192.168.1.1 as the router's login IP address. The fact is that the default gateway is the IP address of the router's login page.

Why does my router page return "Not Secure" ?

The router login page is usually never secure because it uses HTTP instead of HTTPS. Try to access the router page through different browsers. Check if the problem persists.
