The easy way to install Windows 11 on unsupported processors

Have you checked out our Windows 11 upgrade checklist and Nah right from there? Turns out there's a dramatically an easier way to install Windows 11 on computers with older processors - without the need to reformat your drive, erase your files, or even burn the ISO to an external USB drive.

If you currently see "This PC does not currently meet the system requirements for Windows 11" or "CPU is not currently supported for Windows 11", there is a hack to registry approved by Microsoft which should improve it instantly.

(We tested this method on a Dell XPS 15 with Core i7-7700HQ and a Microsoft Surface Go with Pentium Gold 4415Y, neither of which are on Microsoft's compatibility list.)

Here's the whole process from start to finish in three easy steps.

1) Download Windows 11 ISO

You will need to download the ISO. In our testing, this trick didn't work with the Windows 11 setup wizard, it didn't trigger Windows Update, and it didn't trick Microsoft's PC Health Check tool.

On this Microsoft page, scroll down to Download Windows 11 Disc Image (ISO). Open the Select Download drop-down list, choose Windows 11 , press the Download , select your product language in the Choose one drop-down list that appears below, press Confirm, then click 64-bit download .

While downloading this 5.1 GB image, let's move on to step two.

2) Edit Windows registry to bypass CPU check

In Windows, press Start and type regedit , then press Enter to launch the Registry Editor. Go to ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMSetupMoSetup , or by pasting this whole address in the box just below "File, Edit, View, Favorites, Help" or by drilling down through the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and System and Install and MoSetup folders one by one.

In the right pane, right-click and choose New> DWORD (32-bit) Value . Name the value "Allow upgrades with an unsupported TPMO or CPU" minus the quotes. Double click on the new value you created and enter 1 in the Value Data field. Hit okay and close the registry editor.

3) Open the ISO in Windows Explorer and run the setup

Has the ISO finished downloading? Right-click on it and choose Open with> Windows Explorer to mount the virtual disk, then double-click the mount file to start the installation.

That's it! If the registry hack worked, you should soon see a warning message instead of a rejection message and have the option of installing Windows 11 without losing your data. Just be aware that Microsoft reserves the right to suspend security updates if you go this route.
