How to Troubleshoot MiFi Connection Issues

Instead of routers, many people prefer to use mobile Wi-Fi hotspot devices, also known as MiFi. As 4G network speeds continue to improve and 5G grows in popularity, these portable hotspots provide enough bandwidth to connect multiple users and devices. However, sometimes the MiFi does not work properly and you cannot connect to the Internet. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot MiFi connection issues and restore Internet access.

1. Check the status of your internet data

If there is no light, the device is not receiving power and you need to connect the MiFi Charge Port to a computer, smart plug, or wall charger (AC). A red light universally means that all signals to the MiFi have been blocked. As shown here, with some MiFi devices such as Alcatel LINKZONE mobile hotspot, there are intermediate states such as blue light. This usually indicates that connectivity is there, but data is not being transmitted.

3. Remove and reinsert the SIM card

As a final step, you may be able to figure out why the green light isn't appearing by digging inside a bit. Sometimes, due to sudden movement of the MiFi, debris or dirt, the SIM card may come loose from its slot. All you have to do is remove and reinsert the SIM card. To do this, make sure the MiFi is turned off. After that, run your fingers along its edges until you feel a gap, then gently open it with your fingernails and remove the battery.

You should now see a SIM card cover that you can easily open and close. It will easily release the SIM card, which you can put aside for a while. You can use a port cleaning brush, cotton swab, or microfiber cloth to do the cleaning. Reinsert the SIM card until it locks securely into the slot.

Restart your MiFi using the power button and check connectivity again.

It is also recommended that you keep your portable hotspot device in a dry place at all times. The above steps should resolve your Mifi connection issues. If you still don't get a green light after following the steps above, file a ticket with the Technical Support team. If your MiFi device isn't working, you can also turn your Windows 10 laptop into a Wi-Fi hotspot that others can use.
